ISO 9001:2026 and ISO 14001:2026 Certification Consulting - Quality and Environmental Management Systems

ISO 9001:2026 and ISO 14001:2026 Certification Consulting – Quality and Environmental Management Systems

ISO 9001:2026 certification and ISO 14001:2026 certification are management system certifications of interest to many organizations seeking to strengthen quality management capabilities, control business and production activities, meet customer requirements and improve environmental responsibility. ISO 9001:2026 specifies requirements for a Quality Management System (QMS), while ISO 14001:2026 specifies requirements for an Environmental Management System (EMS).

ISO 9001:2026 is the sixth edition (Edition 6) of the standard, officially published by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) on September 16, 2026, replacing ISO 9001:2015. The new edition maintains the familiar foundation of quality management systems while providing greater clarity on certain requirements and strengthening the role of leadership, quality culture, and the consideration of risks and opportunities.

ISO 14001:2026 is the fourth edition (Edition 4), published by ISO on April 15, 2026, replacing ISO 14001:2015. The new edition maintains the core structure and purpose of environmental management systems while providing greater clarity on environmental conditions, climate change, biodiversity, resource efficiency, leadership, and the relationship between environmental management and the organization's strategic direction.

VINTECOM International provides ISO 9001:2026 consulting, ISO 14001:2026 consulting, ISO training, management system development and implementation, internal audits, Gap Assessment, Mock Audits, and support for organizations preparing for ISO certification according to their actual scope and requirements.

1. What Are ISO 9001:2026 and ISO 14001:2026?

ISO 9001:2026 – Quality management systems – Requirements is an international standard specifying requirements for a Quality Management System. It can be applied to organizations across different sectors and of different sizes, with the objective of helping organizations establish, implement, maintain and continually improve their management system to meet customer requirements and other applicable requirements. ISO identifies ISO 9001:2026 as the sixth edition of the standard and the current edition.

ISO 14001:2026 – Environmental management systems – Requirements with guidance for use is an international standard for Environmental Management Systems. It provides a framework for organizations to manage their environmental responsibilities systematically, meet compliance obligations, improve environmental performance and continually improve the Environmental Management System.

The two standards share common elements in their management system structures. Therefore, organizations may establish them separately or integrate ISO 9001:2026 and ISO 14001:2026 into an Integrated Management System (IMS). An integrated approach can help organizations reduce duplication in areas such as policies, documented information control, internal audits, management review, risk management and improvement activities.

2. ISO 9001:2026 – Quality Management System

ISO 9001:2026 focuses on an organization's ability to consistently provide products and services that conform to requirements, meet customer requirements and improve the effectiveness of its management system.

The 2026 edition continues to build on the familiar foundation of ISO 9001, while ISO indicates that certain content has been updated to improve clarity and usability. The new edition places greater emphasis on leadership, quality culture, consideration of risks and opportunities, adaptability to change and compatibility with other ISO management system standards.

For manufacturing organizations, implementing ISO 9001:2026 is not simply a matter of developing a set of procedures. The system needs to be connected with actual operational processes such as customer requirement control, design and development where applicable, purchasing, supplier control, production, inspection and testing, control of monitoring and measuring resources, control of nonconforming products, customer complaints, data analysis and improvement.

3. ISO 14001:2026 – Environmental Management System

ISO 14001:2026 focuses on helping organizations systematically manage the environmental aspects arising from their activities, products and services within the scope of the Environmental Management System.

The 2026 edition is described by ISO as an enhancement and clarification of the existing framework rather than a complete change in the overall approach. ISO places emphasis on issues related to climate change, biodiversity, resource efficiency, environmental conditions, leadership, governance and the relationship between environmental performance and the organization's strategic direction.

ISO 14001:2026 also enables organizations to consider environmental issues from a life-cycle perspective and within the activities they can control or influence. Therefore, the system should not focus solely on waste generated at the factory but should appropriately consider factors such as raw materials, energy, water, emissions, waste, chemicals, transportation, suppliers and environmental conditions relevant to the organization's activities.

4. Key Points to Consider When Transitioning to ISO 9001:2026

As ISO 9001:2026 was officially published on September 16, 2026, organizations currently implementing ISO 9001:2015 should begin conducting a transition Gap Assessment rather than waiting until their existing certification approaches its expiry date.

ISO indicates that ISO 9001:2026 is built on the foundation of the previous edition, with targeted updates intended to improve clarity, usability and relevance in the modern business environment. Key areas emphasized by ISO include quality and quality culture, leadership, clearer consideration of risks and opportunities, and the ability to integrate with other management system standards.

Therefore, the transition should not be carried out simply by replacing the number “2015” with “2026” throughout existing documentation. Organizations should review their current system, identify new or clarified requirements, assess their impact on processes and records, and review quality objectives, internal audit activities and management review processes.

5. Key Points to Consider When Transitioning to ISO 14001:2026

ISO 14001:2026 was published on April 15, 2026, and ISO 14001:2015 is now identified by ISO as withdrawn.

The 2026 edition places greater emphasis on how organizations consider environmental context and environmental issues that may affect their operations, as well as environmental impacts caused by the organization. ISO also highlights current priorities such as climate, biodiversity and resource efficiency.

Organizations currently implementing ISO 14001:2015 should conduct a Gap Assessment to identify the areas requiring updates, including organizational context, environmental aspects, compliance obligations, risks and opportunities, environmental objectives, environmental management programmes, operational controls, performance evaluation and improvement activities.

A notable development is the publication of ISO 14002-3:2026 – Guidelines for using ISO 14001 to address environmental aspects and conditions within an environmental topic area – Part 3: Climate, which provides more specialized guidance for organizations addressing climate-related environmental aspects and conditions within their Environmental Management Systems.

6. ISO 9001:2026 and ISO 14001:2026 Consulting Based on an Integrated Management System (IMS)

For organizations that already have or are developing multiple management systems, ISO 9001:2026 and ISO 14001:2026 can be implemented simultaneously through an Integrated Management System (IMS) approach.

Instead of developing two completely independent systems, organizations can integrate common elements such as:

  • Management policies;
  • Control of documented information;
  • Training;
  • Internal audits;
  • Control of nonconformities;
  • Corrective actions;
  • Management review; and
  • Improvement.

At the same time, requirements specific to quality or environmental management are maintained according to the objectives of each respective standard.

This approach is particularly suitable for large manufacturing organizations, FDI companies and suppliers within international supply chains that need to simultaneously address requirements related to quality, environmental management, and occupational health and safety.

7. ISO 9001:2026 and ISO 14001:2026 Certification Consulting Process

VINTECOM implements its consulting approach through the following sequence:

Current-state assessment → Scope determination → Gap Assessment → Planning → Training → System development/update → Practical implementation → Internal audit → Management review → Mock Audit → Corrective action → Certification audit preparation

Gap Assessment is an important step in determining the organization's current status against the requirements of ISO 9001:2026 or ISO 14001:2026.

For organizations already certified to the 2015 editions, the consulting team can focus on analyzing the transition gaps rather than rebuilding the entire management system from the beginning.

After the management system has been updated, VINTECOM can support internal auditor training, conduct audit simulations, verify actual evidence and guide the organization in addressing identified nonconformities before working with the selected certification body.

8. ISO 9001:2026 and ISO 14001:2026 Training

ISO 9001:2026 and ISO 14001:2026 training programmes can be designed for different groups, including top management, quality managers, environmental managers, EHS personnel, production, engineering, purchasing, warehouse, human resources and internal auditors.

For ISO 9001:2026, training content may focus on:

  • Standard awareness;
  • Quality management thinking;
  • Process approach;
  • Risks and opportunities;
  • Quality culture;
  • Customer requirements;
  • Process control; and
  • Improvement.

For ISO 14001:2026, training content may focus on:

  • Environmental awareness;
  • Environmental context and conditions;
  • Environmental aspects and impacts;
  • Compliance obligations;
  • Risks and opportunities;
  • Environmental objectives;
  • Operational controls;
  • Emergency preparedness and response; and
  • Environmental performance evaluation.
